    Inlet Screens by Knoll

A freestanding, lightweight screen that’s serious about focused work—and open to fun

The lightweight Inlet screen defines workspace while offering visual privacy and sound dampening. Designed by Dan Grabowski—known for using clean lines and thoughtful details to solve problems in smart ways—the movable screen has a welcoming aesthetic that sits nicely in a shared space or individual workspace. With the novel, optional porthole, available with colorful trim, the screens provide privacy without sacrificing connection, solving one of the office’s most vexing issues.

    On-demand privacy and space division

Made of felt from recycled plastic bottles, Inlet provides light audio and visual privacy and acoustic dampening in meeting spaces, between workspaces, or wherever needed. The optional porthole offers an ideal balance of separation and connection, allowing people to focus on work and ascertain teammates’ availability at a glance. Available in several sizes, Inlet Screens can be grouped to create everything from nooks to large team spaces.

    Purposeful functionality

Inlet is designed with mobility in mind. Weighing less than 40 pounds, with glides on the feet and optional handholds, Inlet can be reconfigured in the moment, as individual, team, and organizational needs change. Add a whiteboard and it doubles as a brainstorming tool.

    Details that create connection

The porthole’s size, scale, and placement were carefully considered to maximize sightlines whether people are sitting, standing, or lounging. With rounded corners that soften its profile and grey, coral, green, and blue as options for the porthole, Inlet brings a feeling of friendliness to the workplace.

Dan Grabowski hails from Detroit and is a graduate of The College for Creative Studies. His life’s work was inspired early on by his father who is a builder and by a friend’s father who was an automotive designer. He wanted to pursue a career that combined his love of art and working with his hands. He considered being a sculptor, but then he studied the work of Harry Bertoia in college, where he discovered the connection between sculpture and industrial design. That is when Dan knew he wanted to build things that were inherently functional and beautiful.

After graduating from The Center for Creative Studies, Grabowski worked on a range of projects, including power tools for Sears Craftsman and infant care products for Gerber. His primary focus, however, has been furniture design, with a special passion for wood casegoods.
