Knoll Designer Bios

Lawrence Laske

b. Chicago, 1963

After completing his industrial design work at the University of Illinois, Lawrence Laske pursued post-graduate work in urban scenography design at the prestigious Domus Academy in Milan. It was there where he would meet and, soon after, collaborate with noted Italian designer Ettore Sottsass. Sottsass became a lasting influence on Laske’s work; “Ettore taught me to challenge what is perceived as normal and expected.”

In 1989, he formed Laske Design, a product and interior design firm that has since designed for Alessi, Copco, Dansk, Knoll, and Maxray. In 1993, Laske designed the Saugaro and Toothpick Cactus Tables for Knoll. Inspired by nature, this whimsical table collection was based upon simple, organic forms rendered from natural materials.
