Isamu Noguchi studied at Columbia University and trained as a cabinetmaker in Japan. He assisted Constantin Brancusi in his Paris atelier. His visionary set and costume designs for the New York City Ballet and the Martha Graham Company transposed mythological elements into abstract form to great effect. Noguchi developed products for Zenith, Steuben Glassworks and Herman Miller. In the 1980s, a museum of his work was established in Long Island City, New York. |
