  • VOC emissions reduced by 75% plus in wood–finishing operations and 99% in metal–coating operations
  • VOC emissions reduced by 99% in adhesive operations
  • Safe above–ground storage tanks for solvents protect against contamination
  • Low Nox burners and energy–efficiency programs have significantly reduced nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions
  • All hardwoods used in furniture from North American managed forests
  • 100% of reconstituted veneers made of wood from well–managed forests
  • Knoll has earned FSC Chain of Custody certification
  • Use of chromium eliminated in all water–treatment operations
  • Counter–flow mechanisms installed in powerwash systems have minimized the discharge of phosphates
  • Water recycled in closed–loop water treatment processes; water collected in roof run–off system
  • Storm water management plans help eliminate water contamination during storm events at manufacturing facilities
  • More than 12 million gallons of waste–water treated in 2003 in state–of–the–art facilities
  • Clean air standards far exceed federal and state requirements
  • In 2003, Knoll removed from the waste stream 10,627 wood pallets, 3067 tons wood scrap, 2363 tons sawdust, 110 tons of fabric scrap, 944 tons of paper, 27,800 gallons waste oil and 120,000 gallons of solvent
  • Lease program returns product to Knoll for recycling or refurbishing for a second life
