Knoll Introduces Full Circle
An exclusive resource recovery program developed with ANEW, a non-profit organization dedicated to extending the life cycle of surplus furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E),
architectural materials, and building assets in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible way.

Program Summary
| • |
Full Circle is designed for customers who are looking to avoid landfill
when decommissioning furniture or surplus assets from a space
| • |
Based on the customer’s goals, ANEW will develop a proposal of landfill diversion options
| • |
Options include: reselling, recycling, and/or repurposing surplus, as well as converting unusable surplus to clean Energy-from-Waste
| • |
No other take back program is as comprehensive as the Knoll Full Circle program
Addressing the Issue
| • |
Not all surplus furniture has resale value, so much of it ends up in landfill
| • |
Most furniture recycling programs salvage only metals; wood and plastics are generally sent to landfill
| • |
Before Full Circle, there were no comprehensive FF&E take back programs to avoid landfill
| • |
Existing take back programs are specific to select products and require shipping across country, adding cost and carbon emissions
What is Energy-from-Waste (EfW)?
| • |
Solid waste is combusted at high temperatures, turning water in steel tubes surrounding the combustion chamber into steam, which generates electricity
| • |
A greener alterative to creating energy than by coal or oil
| • |
Classified as renewable by the U.S. Department of Energy
| • |
Produces electricity with less environmental impact than almost any other source of electricity
| • |
Prevents an estimated 30 million tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere
The Total Solution
| • |
The Full Circle resource recovery program is the first program of its kind—offering fully integrated services for dealing responsibly with surplus FF&E
| • |
The customer selects from a set of services to meet its economic, social and environmental objectives:

Case Study: Murphy Oil, Calgary Canada
Overview
| • |
In August 2010, Edmund Lee, an independent Knoll representative (Insight Agencies, Canada), engaged the Full Circle program on behalf of his customer,
Murphy Oil. The customer needed to decommission more than 200 office suites, rolling files and furniture.
Goal
| • |
The client was interested in ensuring that as much of the furniture and equipment could be diverted from landfill as possible, and they wanted to track the results. Economics were also a driving factor.
Outcome/Metrics
| • |
Working with InstallNET, ANEW presented their decommission strategy of solutions. Ultimately the customer chose to resell 76 suites and dismantle/recycle 120 suites
| • |
The project was completed in October 2010
| • |
Total diverted from landfill: 34.6 tons (resale/reuse: 28.5 tons, recycle: 6.1 tons)
| • |
Client achieved a 30% cost savings while reducing their impact to landfill through resale and recycle of their surplus furniture
Case Study: George Mason University, VA
Overview
| • |
In August 2010, Knoll dealer M.O.I. used the Full Circle program for a decommission project that needed to be
completed in just one week. George Mason University had 75 old workstations--a combination of Knoll, Herman Miller and KI
product--that needed to be removed.
Goal
| • |
The university was looking for a way to remove the product responsibly, and to measure the outcome.
Outcome/Metrics
| • |
Because the products were in poor condition and could not be repurposed, recycling was approved by the customer as the best option
| • |
Project completed Sept 1, 2010
| • |
Total diverted from landfill: 21.9 tons (recycled)
