Maison à Bordeaux

The Maison à Bordeaux, designed by Rem Koolhaas of OMA in1994 and completed in 1998, is among the most iconic homes built over the last several decades. In these photographs, a solitary Pollock Executive Chair (1963) rests atop the large elevating platform that is central to the design of the house: the client, a paraplegic, who together with his wife and family, commissioned a house that he could navigate. That central elevating room – which itself changes from an office, to a library, to a wine cellar – provides access to the house’s three floors.
