Designs by David Adjaye for Knoll Spotlighted by Maker Stories
April 28, 2014
David Adjaye’s Washington Collection for Knoll™ is showcased by Maker Stories, the blog that introduces readers “to the people behind the world’s finest products; Who are they, what inspires them, and what goes into the making of the things you love.”
The collection debuted in October 2013 and most recently appeared at the Knoll exhibition space at the 2014 Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.
Commenting on Adjaye’s architecture, Maker Stories writes, “In 1994 he set up his first architectural office, and since then he has become known for his visionary and sculptural projects on five continents. From private houses to temporary pavilions to city masterplans, his work is characterized by insightful cultural engagement and civic qualities.”
The Maker Stories piece is an adaptation of a Knoll Inspiration interview that originally appeared at knoll.com in which David Adjaye describes the Washington Collection for Knoll™ as an “investigation into form, materials, balance and weight.”
“I wanted to create furniture that is both playful and beautiful,” Adjaye said, “appearing light yet also expressing monumentality.”
“The line captures his sculptural abilities, and translates them into beautiful and practical objects,” concludes Maker Stories.
