KnollTextiles Creative Director Dorothy Cosonas is 2016 IIDA Titan

Dorothy Cosonas

New York, NY—KnollTextiles Creative Director Dorothy Cosonas is the recipient of the 2016 International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Titan Award. The IIDA Titan Award recognizes significant contributions of the Interior Design profession by an individual, company or organization in the field. Cosonas will be presented with the honor and celebrated at the IIDA Annual Meeting on Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.

“Dorothy is a visionary in textiles, known for her impeccable style and trendsetting collections. Her work not only inspires her peers, but also deeply influences how spaces are experienced,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP. “As the Creative Director at KnollTextiles, Dorothy’s direction combines modern, elegant patterns with bold texture and color, collection after collection. She is enormously respected and a force within the design world. We are so pleased to honor Dorothy Cosonas as the recipient of this year’s IIDA Titan Award.”

Cosonas was named the 11th Creative Director of KnollTextiles in 2005. Her inaugural collection won a Best of NeoCon Gold award, her first of seven. In 2008, she founded Knoll Luxe as the fashion-forward luxury component of KnollTextiles. Recognizing her influence on the industry, seven fabrics created by Cosonas or under her direction at KnollTextiles were selected for the permanent collection at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum. In addition, her work was a major part of KnollTextiles 2011 retrospective exhibition at the Bard Graduate Center.

“I am very grateful and honored to be recognized by the IIDA. This recognition by fellow designers is particularly meaningful because they understand that design does not just happen—it requires dedication, focus and especially hard work to achieve a desired result. My designs have always been rooted in modernism. They are an ongoing consistent theme of patterns, solids and textures that I hope speak for themselves, that are appropriate for the market needs and that in the end are timeless and beautiful,” Dorothy Cosonas.

Cosonas, who holds degrees in fine art and textile design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, began her career working under Sina Pearson at Unika Vaev, the upholstery and wallcovering manufacturer. Her experience as Pearson’s apprentice inspires her to discover and nurture young design talent, ensuring her legacy in the industry.
