Knoll Luxe Fine Textiles Showroom Opens at D&D Building in New York
May 5, 2010
NEW YORK, NY, May 5, 2010 — Knoll Luxe FineTextiles has opened its first residential showroom at New York's D&D Building located at 979 Third Avenue near 59 Street. The new showroom features the Knoll Luxe Collection developed under the direction of Dorothy Cosonas as well as complementary products from KnollTextiles. Cosonas, Creative Director, conceived Knoll Luxe with the residential designer in mind; the line features the finest quality, premium yarns. It also reflects a fashion-forward modern aesthetic for which Knoll is so well known and pays homage to the modern, minimalist style of Florence Knoll, who started the industry's first commercial textile program in 1947.

To date, Cosonas has created three Knoll Luxe collections inspired by her love of art, architecture and fashion. Knoll Luxe debuted in 2008 with upholstery fabrics designed by Cosonas. That same year, she developed a collection with the fashion house of Proenza Schouler. For the launch of the new D&D showroom, Cosonas has collaborated with fashion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte on a line of upholstery and drapery fabrics.

Commenting on the new D&D showroom, Cosonas, said, "Today, Knoll comes full circle from its days of pioneering the commercial market to offering contemporary textiles to residential designers seeking our unique modernist vision. Our brand has always had significant cross-over appeal; the new D&D showroom reinforces our commitment to the residential textile market."

Florence Knoll Bassett founded KnollTextiles in 1947. She pioneered the commercial fabrics industry out of necessity for use in Knoll Associates' cutting edge commercial design practice. At the time, commercial textiles did not exist and residential fabrics were too traditional to be used by the forward-thinking Knoll Associates commercial design practice. Florence Knoll began by using fabrics from British tailors and translating hand-woven textures into commercially viable materials. Throughout its 60+ year-history, KnollTextiles has collaborated with many artists and fashion designers to create collections that have furnished some of the most celebrated commercial and residential interiors globally.

Cannon Schaub, Manager of the new D&D showroom, joins Knoll Luxe from KA Design Group. Prior, she held a variety of positions, including that of Textiles Manager, over a 10 year period with Holly Hunt New York. The new Knoll Luxe Fine Textiles showroom is located at Suite 1702, 979 Third Avenue, New York, NY.
