House Beautiful and Architectural Digest Showcase Knoll Classics

Homes of Design Within Reach CEO, John Edelman, and Designer Emily Summer Profiled

April 23, 2012

The April 2012 issues of House Beautiful showcases the Connecticut home of John Edelman, CEO of Design within Reach, a Knoll Space retailer.

The Connecticut home, where John Edelman lives with his wife, Bonnie, features a number of Knoll pieces that "have been used for 50 years."

"Modern goes with everything," Bonnie notes.

Commenting on the Saarinen Tulip chairs in the home's dining room, John Edelman said, "We sat in literally 50 dining chairs and imagined ourselves at the table for two to three hours. The Saarinen chairs were the most comfortable. The most fun we have is sitting around the table and laughing and sharing stories, and that takes time."

The space also features a Barcelona day bed, Bertoia Barstools, Saarinen Executive Chairs and Tulip table and a Florence Knoll Table desk.

"If we do have a trendy whim, it came come through in a pillow. If I'm going to bring in a feminine touch, I do it with flowers," John notes. "A neutral color palette makes me feel calm. It makes me feel safe," he continues.

The Platner Lounge Collection and Bertoia Barstools, which furnish the living room and kitchen of designer, Emily Summer's California home, are also showcased on ArchitecturalDigest.com.

"Gathered around the living room fireplace are a Warren Platner settee, lounge chair, and ottoman" notes Architectural Digest writer, Peter Haldeman. The all-white kitchen features a pair of Bertoia Barstools in Spinneybeck leather.
