Knoll Luxe, the Luxury Textile Brand from Knoll, Collaborates with Designer Maria Cornejo for Fall 2014

November 11, 2014

NEW YORK, New York, November 11, 2014 – Knoll Luxe announced its latest fashion collaboration, a collection with Chilean-American designer Maria Cornejo. This is the fourth collaboration between a fashion house and Knoll Luxe.

Commenting on the collaboration, KnollTextiles creative director Dorothy Cosonas said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to work with such a preeminent designer. I have been an admirer of Maria’s work for so long, and it was an honor to create this collection with her.”

Inspired by Maria and Dorothy’s mutual love of rich, eclectic patterns, the collection includes four upholsteries and two draperies. Using a mix of modern, urban, and international influences, Maria worked towards the goal of creating a collection that would stand the test of time. While that idea of crafting future heirlooms that have life beyond the current seasons was a priority, the emphasis was warm, fresh color palettes and lush textures.

For Knoll Luxe, Cosonas focuses on cutting-edge American fashion designers. She follows Knoll’s long tradition (76 years to be exact) of collaborating with the most innovative design talent in the world.

Upholstery

Metallic Gloss. This upholstery fabric is based on a runway piece from Maria’s Fall/Winter ’13 collection. The translation, Metallic Gloss, is a forward-thinking textile woven on a smaller scale than the original, using a cotton/viscose/linen blend coated with a polyurethane film. 56% Viscose, 30% Cotton, 8% Linen, 6% Polyurethane.

Ita. This fabric is based on a pattern from Spring/Summer 2014. The pattern was an evolution from the original, reminiscent of a Santiago blanket. Ita is Maria’s grandmother’s name, so it is especially personal. 100% Wool.

Tara. Drawing inspiration from a garment in her Pre Fall 2012 collection, this pattern takes the idea of the stitching in the original piece and creates something with a hand-made quality, depth and texture. The fabric has a saturated ground with surface weave detail. 100% Cotton.

Digi Velvet. This distressed velvet has an all-over texture which is inspired by some of Maria’s personal photography – blurred images that originate from her iPhone. Contains 83% Cotton and 17% Polyester.

Drapery

This drapery is a more direct translation from two garments from Maria’s Pre Fall 2012 collection. Her original pieces were created from silk threads, meant to evoke feathers. Made of 100% Trevira CS Polyester.

Cloud. Drawing distinct inspiration from a Gerhardt Richter exhibition, the original dress was part of Maria’s Pre Fall 2013 collection. The original photo was of blurred dancers. Made of 100% Linen.

About Maria Cornejo

Maria Cornejo’s varied career spans London, Paris, Milan and Tokyo where she was part of the ground-breaking design partnership Richmond Cornejo; developed her own signature “Maria Cornejo” collection; and worked as a creative consultant for major retailers such as Joseph, Tehen and Jigsaw. In 1998, she transformed a raw space in Nolita into a highly creative atelier and store known as Zero + Maria Cornejo. From the beginning, Maria established an independent point of view and developed new ways of cutting fabrics based on the simplest geometric forms. This simplicity, ease and freedom in her designs have become her calling card. A champion of women, in the fashion industry and beyond, her work is guided by the idea of creating wearable luxury for real women and has gained her a loyal following and high praise from fashion insiders and clients like Tilda Swinton, Christy Turlington, Cindy Sherman and, most recently, First Lady Michelle Obama.
