Elias Associates takes on the Apthorp

Celebrated interior designer Edda Elias together with her firm Elias Associates recently completed a full renovation of a 3-bedroom apartment in the Apthorp on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Project designer Alicia Kinloch, who worked on the apartment along with Robert Lynch Steed, told us:

“This project was a renovation of a historic 1908 Manhattan apartment. Our challenge was to create light, fresh and modern interiors while maintaining and respecting the original neoclassical architecture. By juxtaposing periods and styles we created a lot of thought and interest that makes the space enjoyable for years to come. You don’t gain appreciation by playing it safe. The best impact comes from creating a bit of chaos. The Saarinen table and tulip chairs were the starting point for all of the other furnishings in the space. Their iconic silhouettes were the right combination of sleek, sculptural shapes to contrast the classical elements in the room.”
