In the September issue of Architectural Digest, writer Evan Nicole Brown interviews Archibong in "New School" and explores his past and current projects, among them his current collection of indoor/outdoor table and café chairs with Knoll.
Along with his collection with Knoll, The Sail was unveiled in June at the London Design Festival and the Wave and the Shell will help complete his telling of the African diaspora this fall in New York and at Art Basel in Miami. As Archibong states “every time a reverberation comes from any corner of the globe, from a member of the diaspora, it affects the world. It’s almost like a rallying call.”
In the article, Ini reflects on his inspiration for the collaboration with Knoll, “taking cues from Scandinavian modernism and midcentury icons like the molded-plywood Eames lounge chair - ‘I’m drawing from all those things to make a singular, monolithic representation within the chair.’” Ini Archibong’s ingenuity continues to inspire the next generation of designers and this foray into furniture design with Knoll makes for a sensible and articulate collaboration.
