On September 18, Lincoln Center hosted the inaugural Lincoln Center Global Exchange, the first summit of its kind to explore and advocate the role of art as "an engine for innovation and progress." Featured talks, presentations, panels and performances centered on the intersections between Art and Science, Art and Education, and Art and Cities. Knoll provided Generation by Knoll®, D'Urso Swivel Chairs and Saarinen Side Tables to support the day's program. The international audience of 250 leaders in business, government, education, philanthropy, media, science, technology and the arts hailed from more than 30 countries.
"We have founded the Lincoln Center Global Exchange to bring together an extraordinary group of pathfinders to explore the impact of art and culture in our society, not only in concert halls, theaters and museums, but in brain science, education and urban development," Lincoln Center President Jed Bernstein said in his welcome remarks.
Featured speakers included Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes, Conductor Gustavo Dudamel, Actor and Advocate Michael J. Fox, Executive Chairman of Alphabet Inc. Eric Schmidt, CNN's Fareed Zakaria, National Endowment for the ArtsChairman Jane Chu, IAC Chairman Barry Diller with New York Times columnist Andrew Sorkin, choreographer Shen Wei and President of The Rockefeller University and Head of the Laboratory of Brain Development Dr. Marc Tessier-Lavigne. The summit also featured performances by the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, Youssou N'Dour, Shen Wei Dance Arts and Akram Khan Company, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and the Lowcountry Voices.
