A roundup of the latest Knoll press coverage illustrates modern classics are still very much part of the conversation. From Platner to Bertoia to Saarinen, designers and home enthusiasts continue to rely on the elegance, craft, and functionality of mid-century modern furnishings. In addition to the classics, two recent endeavors recieved attention: the reintroduction of the Bertoia Molded Shell Chair and the company's Breast Cancer Awareness initiative.

Originally a line extension of Bertoia's widely admired and well-loved 1952 Wire Series, the Bertoia Molded Shell Chair has come back. To obtain the thin profile and complex curves of the original, a glass fiber-reinforced nylon is now being used. Although fiberglass had likewise been the original material, it had been made by hand. Today, the fiberglass is being injection molded through a newer process that maintains the original aesthetics but is stronger and able to pass the commercial industry’s BIFMA standards. The chair is currently offered in four colors: orange red, white, yellow, and medium grey.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Knoll is offering limited edition versions of iconic designs by Florence Knoll and Harry Bertoia in a special, signature pink finish. For every Bertoia Side Chair and Hairpin Stacking Table sold, Knoll will donate all net proceeds to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition - a fitting partner given the company's roots in Pennsylvania. These two signature pieces have delivered functionality, joy, and satisfaction over the course of many years. With their signature pink finish, they now deliver something new: hope and support.
