When North Carolina State University's College of Education created the William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, the new facility called for interior furnishings that facilitated collaboration and creative thinking. Working with Carolina Business Interiors, NCSU selected Knoll to furnish the school's administrative offices and its “collaboratories,” which allow faculty members, students, teachers, education professionals and research scientists to work together in interdisciplinary teams. The result is a flexible, versatile space that supports these pioneering educational programs.
In the private office, the Friday Institute incorporated AS-3, AutoStrada wall-based planning, in a Maple Techgrain veneer, with the Life® chair and Ricchio side chairs. Chemical-safe countertops were mounted on Propeller legs, surrounded by Visor® side chairs. A Calibre lateral file, Propeller tables, an Upstart® mobile tower, Bebop™ cart, and Chadwick® chair, with Risom lounge chairs and side tables, form an ideal collaborative space. Finally, a Reff worksurface over Calibre lateral files and Bertoia barstools, surrounded by Calibre® Hybrid cabinets.
