What's the first thing you do in the morning?

Straight into the shower!

Who's your design mentor or hero?

Alvar Aalto.

What's the best-designed obect in your life?

My 54" Saarinen Tulip table with walnut top and black base.

What recent movie or TV show has inspired you?

"A Single Man," directed by Tom Ford. The whole production design of the movie was amazing, but particularly the John Lautner house featured.

What's your first "design moment" or "design memory"?

I must have been 4 or 5 when I first saw my grandfather's leather butterfly chair. I understood instinctively that someone must have thought about this differently. A chair did not have to be just a chair.

What's your favorite room in your house?

My living room/library, where all my books are.

What 's your favorite public space?

Central Park.

What's the best city for design?

I feel most inspired when in Paris.

What's your favorite building?

Villa Mairea by Alvar Aalto. It's in Noormarkku, Finland.

Do you work to music?

Only on weekends.

Mac or PC?

Mac.

Pinterest: thumbs up or thumbs down?

Down. Fun but not for serious work.

What is the best museum for design?

The Neues Museum in Berlin by Friedrich August Stüler and later David Chipperfield.

What's the last thing you do before you go to sleep?

Read in bed!
