Pardo’s address on Knoll design recapped Florence Schust Knoll’s days at Cranbrook Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan with the Saarinen family, and her rigorous academic training, both abroad and in the United States, under the likes of Marcel Breuer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Pardo stressed that the precepts established by Hans and Florence Knoll – collaboration, innovation and modernism – are honored throughout the Knoll story and today, citing collaborators from Harry Bertoia to Frank Gehry to David Adjaye.
