A Pop of Red at Splendid Peasant

These striking red Wassily chairs bring a pop of color to Splendid Peasant, an American folk art gallery and home in Sheffield, Massachusetts. The owners first opened Splendid Peasant about 28 years ago in South Egremont, Massachusetts (they then moved to Bristol, Rhode Island, before resettling in the Berkshires in 2007). After three decades, the business is set to close, but there may still be a chance to have a look inside. The interior's vivid accents provide a cheerful counterpoint to the muted concrete floor and white walls.

The owner shared her design: “The Wassily Chairs are in the living room of our home, a home which also serves as a display space for our American folk art gallery. Our objective was to create a minimalist setting with strong pieces of sculptural iconic furniture, allowing the folk art to take center stage and ‘pop.' The Wassily Chairs serve as perfect reading chairs with backs toward the north light (as shown) or, turned around, a perfect perch to enjoy the view.”
