Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s MR Chair in Rattan and Alexander Girard’s Coffee Table for Knoll caught the eye of the design press for their design heritage and lasting appeal to the contemporary interior.

In its May/June 2020 cover story, Veranda celebrated wicker as a material with a continuous popularity, cutting across styles and eras. “Wicker is design alchemy, turning humble natural fibers such as rattan, cane and raffia to gold by weaving them into topographies unimaginable for more refined materials,” writes Editor Tracey Minkin, noting Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich’s 1927 rattan MR Chair in rattan as a milestone development in the rise of the material’s popularity available today.
