An architectural evolution

Sam Chermayeff brings an adaptive mindset to furniture by choosing to evolve an existing design. His approach to the Florence Knoll credenza lineage respects its historical rigor while expanding it for shifting patterns of working and living. “If Florence Knoll was still around, she would’ve responded to the current climate by reshaping her own system to fit today’s needs,” says Chermayeff.

Sam Chermayeff

American-born, trained in Texas and London, and based in Berlin, Sam Chermayeff reflects Knoll’s international design outlook. He is a founding partner and director in the architecture firm June 14 Meyer-Grohbrügge & Chermayeff and Sam Chermayeff Office. Sam Chermayeff is part of a new generation of architects who confidently adapt modernist codes to contemporary culture, producing work that balances informality, elegance, and rigor.
