To introduce Rockwell Unscripted to Knoll Office and KnollStudio sellers, Knoll hosted a multi-city training that echoed the themes of its latest furniture collection – hospitality, theater, and play. For the training in Atlanta, Knoll collaborated with Pilobolus, a unique and internationally acclaimed arts organization dedicated to breaking the barriers between creative disciplines.
Rockwell Unscripted is premised on an increasingly blurred boundary between work and play in the office. Rather than compromising the priorities of the workplace, play instead, injects a new vitality, creating holistic, open-to-interpretation workplaces that can enhance innovation and productivity. Consequently, Pilobolus was the perfect fit to help Knoll Office and KnollStudio sellers create their own interpretations of Rockwell Unscripted.
To start the day off, Pilobolus welcomed participants into the Atlanta showroom with a creative and theatrical performance excerpt of “Tall Ladies.” The dance, intended to put the audience in a creative mood, is part of Pilobus’ larger performance, “Untitled.” Following the performance, the sellers broke up into groups and went through three workshops dedicated to sharing Pilobolus’ methods of creation through collaboration and improvisation. The program also included a seminar on creative thinkinkg led by Itamar Kubovy, Pilobolus’ Executive Producer and a workshop dedicated to sharing Pilobolus' methods of creation through collaboration and improvisation.

Just as Rockwell Unscripted is aimed at creating a work experience designed to let spontaneity unfold and people complete the story, Pilobolus spent the day engaging Knoll employees to be their own storytellers, using Rockwell Unscripted designs to quite literally blur the boundary between work and play. A range of activities were performed using the furniture in unconventional ways – exploring the power of play by stripping away any limitation on what each piece of furniture is “supposed” to do.

The result of PIlobolus’ visit was a successful immersion between Knoll sellers and Rockwell Unscripted. Each participant interacted with the furniture in their own ways, ultimately coming away with unique interpretations of how the collection articulates notions of hospitality, theater, and play. ♦
